Create your account and generate your first changelog

Shipstar connects to your GitHub repositories and turns your recent commits into polished marketing content — changelogs, blog posts, social posts, and more. This guide walks you through signing up, linking GitHub, and triggering your first changelog in just a few minutes.

Sign up and get into the dashboard

1. Go to app.shipstar.ai and create your account using your email address or Google sign-in.
2. Verify your email if prompted, then log in to reach the dashboard.
3. When you first arrive, you will be inside a default project. Projects are the containers Shipstar uses to group your repositories, content, and settings.

Install the Shipstar GitHub App and pick your repositories

1. In the dashboard sidebar, click Sources.
2. Click Install GitHub App. GitHub will ask you which organization or personal account to install on, and which repositories Shipstar may read. Access is read-only.
3. After approving the installation on GitHub, you are returned to the Sources page. Select the repositories this project should track — these are the repos Shipstar will analyze when generating content.

Generate your first changelog

1. From the dashboard, go to the Calendar page or look for the generate action in your project.
2. Choose Public Changelog as the content type and click Generate. Shipstar will analyze commits from your tracked repositories over the last 7 days by default.
3. You will receive a content_id and an initial status of pending. Content is generated asynchronously in the background, so it will not appear instantly.
4. Check the status by opening the content item in the dashboard. The status moves from pending to processing to completed — once complete, your changelog draft is ready to review and edit before publishing.

Tips

• If you do not see any content generated, make sure at least one tracked repository has commits in the past 7 days.
• You can customize the date range and the tone of generated content — see the guides on content guidelines for details.
• On the Free plan you start with 1,000 credits per month; a changelog costs 100 credits, so you have plenty of room to experiment.
